Putting On the Freak…
Matthew 5:3-10 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. “Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Now here is a picture… a picture of a what a believer in Jesus looks like… those whom Jesus called His disciples.
We could also label them as the first Jesus Freaks.
This message being about dressing for the selfie titled “Jesus and Me”… a portrait of what it looks like to put His freak on!
Not that I am there yet, (not quite ready for the selfie) but you all know that I am actively pursuing… stalking… this crowd, with the idea that some of their “bling” just might rub off on me… Luke 1:37 For nothing will be impossible with God.
The first thing I notice in this snapshot… it’s not the kind of “freak” we’ve seen before. Jesus came and turned our world, everything we held high and lifted up… now… upside down, inside out and emptied of power to satisfy.
They didn’t dress for temple and answer the altar call… Jesus gave them a mountaintop experience… about His world… His kingdom… His family. They came to Him right out of the boats. They came to Him out of the fields. They came to Him in the midst of their everyday. They came to LISTEN and… and some, after hearing, FOLLOWED.
Whereas, their priests and family and friends were vocal about pursuing health and wealth and being one’s best in this life (just like ours do today), the experts could not fill that nagging spot in the soul that would not be filled with anything less than PEACE WITH GOD! Nothing in this life could satisfy the LONGING of the human spirit to BE BACK in the arms of the ONE who lovingly created each and every one.
Until Jesus… “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. (John 14:6)
Bottom line… We have to become a Jesus Freak!
Are you poor in spirit? Do you know you lack something (Someone) in your life? Celebrate! For yours is the kingdom of heaven.
Do you mourn for that something (Someone) you are lacking in your life? Celebrate! for you shall be comforted.
Get your freak on… put on Jesus!
You will become gentle, and inherit the earth.
You will begin to hunger and thirst for righteousness, and be satisfied.
You will learn to be merciful, because you receive mercy.
Jesus gives you a NEW heart – His heart, a pure heart, so you will be able to see God.
Jesus makes peace for us and we become His witnesses – peacemakers, the ultimate peacemaker… a son of God.
I am PROUD to be a Jesus Freak. In fact, this is a higher compliment than being called a Christian.
I don’t have the full freak on yet… someday I hope I won’t have to TELL you I’m a Jesus Freak!
Philippians 3:13 but one thing I do; forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Someday… a selfie of Jesus and me… just to prove I LOOK LIKE HIM!
Beautiful!!
What do you say? Let’s make it a GROUP picture!
Let’s get His Freak On…
