The Lord’s Day… Is coming!
2 Peter 3:8 But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.
Plenty of time! Not one moment too soon and not a moment too late …not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9).
But the day of the Lord will come!
…like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. (2 Peter 3:10)
We are so funny… On the one hand we procrastinate (believing we have all the time in the world) about everything – especially with God.
If we believe God IS, we assume He will “understand” and be willing to give us OUR way – on HIS day – RIGHT NOW! If we don’t believe God IS, we assume we ARE and time only becomes relevant when it (and our desires within our time frame that are left undone) is “stolen” from us.
But, whether we believe in God or not, His day – the day of the Lord will come!
For believers in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, the Lord AND the day of the Lord is HERE! John 17:22-23 The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.
Are we looking for Him in our day? Do we look forward to His day being our day? What are we doing to insure our plan for the day is straight out of His Day Planner? Is He welcomed and celebrated by you, or are you caught unaware by life and it’s labor pains (all creation groans – Romans 8:22), a victim of choosing the wrong focus of your life?
2 Peter 3:14-16 Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless, and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; … some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.
I hope we want to be found by Him in peace…
Spotless and blameless in our determination to place Him on the throne of our life…
Celebrating every moment the patience of our Lord has given to us, as an opportunity for salvation and salvation’s fruit.
2 Peter 3:17-18 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness, but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Instead of counting the minutes we have left to fill with our ways, let us turn our eyes on Him and His ways!
2 Peter 1:2-3 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
Let us become PARTAKERS of His divine nature!
2 Peter 1:4 For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.
Partakers of His divine nature! This is the day the Lord has made! (Psalm 118:24) let us rejoice and be glad in it… applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. (2 Peter 1:5-7)
Useful and Fruitful Partakers… For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins. (2 Peter 1:8-9)
Surefooted Partakers… Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you. (2 Peter 1:10-11)
Practice… Practice… Practice…
We look with eyes that say WHY PRACTICE we got this made!
But the day… the final day… of the Lord will come!
The day we enter into His eternal kingdom.
Do we want to be “stumbling” or “dancing”… in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.
We’re talking about The Lord’s Day… HIS day… I think we might want our focus to be on the question… which would He prefer to see when His saints come marching in?
Let us not procrastinate – Let us seize the day! Let us seize His day TODAY!!
